KCP Visiting Judges
I grew up with dogs, as do most South Africans. My family always had pedigree breeds, including German Shepherds, Border Collies, Bullmastiffs, and Labradors. At 17, I got my first show dog, a Pyrenean Mountain Dog named “Sancho” from Mari Cooper of De Le Neige Kennels. Sancho won his first CC and BOB from the puppy class, beginning my show career.
I chose not to breed Pyreneans as there were already enough breeders. When Shih Tzus were introduced to South Africa, I fell in love with the breed. My first Shih Tzu, "Cheeky," from Nasdom Kennel, was an exceptional pet and show dog, winning multiple Groups and BIS awards. I later imported Shih Tzus from the UK to expand bloodlines. This led to the birth of CH Nasdom Anjin San at Kaikoura, the first Shih Tzu in South Africa to win a BIS.
Over the years, I have owned and exhibited various breeds with great success, including American Cocker Spaniels (Ch. Kaikoura Manolito, a top Gundog), Pyrenean Mountain Dogs, Shih Tzus, Maltese, Poodles, Miniature Schnauzers, and Airedale Terriers. My Airedale, “Angus,” was South Africa’s Top Dog All Breeds in 2005, the first Terrier to achieve this title. For years, my Airedales led the Terrier group. Currently, I own Labradors, Australian Shepherds, and Chihuahuas as pets and continue to exhibit Chinese Cresteds with outstanding results. My Powder Puff bitch is the top-winning Crested of all time in South Africa.
I began judging in my early twenties, starting with the Working and Herding groups. I later qualified for Gundogs, Utility, Hounds, Terriers, and Toys, becoming an All-Breeds Judge and FCI All-Breeds Judge. I also judge Handlers and specialize in Bull Terriers. I have judged in over 20 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Japan, and Germany, often honored with BIS assignments. In South Africa, I regularly judge and recently oversaw the Working & Herding Adult and Puppy of the Year events.
I have held many committee roles over the years. Currently, I chair the Transvaal Terrier Club and the NTKC All-Breeds Club, overseeing multiple annual shows. I also serve on the Goldfields Grounds Committee and mentor new judges through the judges’ scheme. Previously, I chaired the Judges Sub-Committee and have served on various breed club committees.
