Responsible Breeding and Special Requests

Dear KCP Breeders,

The welfare of dogs is KCP’s top priority. Our breeding rules, including minimum breeding ages and the required interval between litters, protect the health of breeding dogs and their puppies. Responsible breeding starts before mating. Members should consider the health, temperament, pedigree and suitability of both dogs, with particular care for the bitch’s condition and recovery from her previous litter.

The website now offers Check breeding eligibility in the Virtual Breeding section. Select the sire, dam and planned mating date to check for objections under the recorded KCP rules. Please use this feature before planning a mating. The check depends on the available records and does not replace required approvals or the breeder’s responsibility for the dogs’ welfare.

Where a genuine exceptional case arises, the bitch’s owner or authorised breeder must submit a Special Request with a clear explanation and supporting evidence. Admin will review the records and the Secretary will make the final decision, including whether any fine applies. Approval is not automatic. This facility must not be used as a routine way around breeding rules.

KCP maintains a complete log of every member’s Special Requests across all request types. The Secretary can review this history to distinguish genuine exceptional circumstances from habitual violations and decide the appropriate action. Every case will be assessed based on its evidence, circumstances and previous history.

We expect all breeders to place their dogs’ welfare above convenience, breeding schedules or commercial interests.
