Rules & Regulations

KCP Breeding Rules

The Kennel Club of Pakistan (KCP) is committed to promoting responsible breeding of purebred dogs, maintaining accurate breeding and pedigree records and protecting the health and welfare of dogs and puppies registered with KCP.

Breeding should always be undertaken with the objective of maintaining or improving the health, temperament, conformation, breed type and overall quality of the breed.

All breeding and litter registration procedures shall be completed through the official KCP Online Portal in accordance with these rules.

Breeders are responsible for ensuring that all information submitted to KCP is complete, correct and accurate.

1. Eligibility for Breeding

Both the sire and dam must be registered with the Kennel Club of Pakistan and eligible for breeding under KCP Rules.

The following minimum ages shall apply on the date of mating:

  • Male: Minimum 12 months
  • Female: Minimum 20 months

The maximum breeding ages shall be:

  • Male: 11 years
  • Female: 9 years

Any additional breed specific breeding requirements prescribed by KCP or its affiliated breed clubs shall also apply.

2. Requirements for the Breeder

To register a litter with KCP:

  • The breeder must be a registered member of KCP.
  • The breeder must be the registered owner of the dam at the time of mating and whelping.
  • The breeder must have a Kennel Name / Prefix registered with KCP.
  • Both the sire and dam must comply with applicable KCP breeding requirements.
  • All prescribed breeding and litter related procedures must be completed through the KCP Online Portal.

3. Stud Certificate

Following mating, a Stud Certificate must be submitted through the KCP Online Portal within 14 days of the date of mating.

Responsibility of the Breeder

It shall be the sole responsibility of the breeder to ensure that the Stud Certificate is completed and uploaded in the KCP system within the prescribed period.

The breeder must coordinate with the registered owner of the stud dog and ensure that all required information is provided and the Stud Certificate process is completed within the required time.

Failure of the stud owner to cooperate or complete any required action shall not relieve the breeder of responsibility for complying with KCP registration requirements.

Agreement Between Breeder and Stud Owner

Any financial arrangement, stud fee, puppy arrangement, breeding agreement or other terms agreed between the breeder and the stud owner shall be considered a private bilateral agreement between the two parties.

The Kennel Club of Pakistan is not a party to such agreements and accepts no responsibility or liability for:

  • Stud fees or payments.
  • Puppy arrangements.
  • Financial disputes.
  • Private breeding terms.
  • Failure of either party to fulfil an agreement.
  • Any other disagreement between the breeder and the stud owner.

Any dispute arising from such an arrangement shall be resolved directly between the breeder and the stud owner.

KCP’s responsibility shall be limited to maintaining official breeding and registration records and ensuring compliance with KCP Rules and Regulations.

Proof of Mating

A clear photograph showing the sire and dam during mating must be uploaded with the Stud Certificate.

The photograph must clearly show both dogs and must relate to the mating being declared.

KCP reserves the right to request additional information or evidence where the photograph or other information submitted is insufficient for verification.

Official Record

Once submitted and accepted, the Stud Certificate shall become the official electronic KCP record of the mating and shall be linked with the subsequent Litter Intimation and Litter Registration.

Submission of a Stud Certificate does not by itself constitute approval of a litter. All subsequent KCP breeding and registration requirements must also be fulfilled.

4. Litter Intimation

Following the birth of a litter, the breeder must submit a Litter Intimation through the KCP Online Portal within 10 days of whelping.

The Litter Intimation shall include the information requested by the system including:

  • Date of birth of the litter.
  • Number of puppies born.
  • Number of male puppies.
  • Number of female puppies.
  • Any other information required by KCP.

The Litter Intimation shall automatically be linked with the approved Stud Certificate and the records of the sire, dam, breeder and registered Kennel Prefix.

The breeder may apply for Litter Registration only after the Litter Intimation has been approved by KCP.

5. Litter Registration

Once the Litter Intimation has been approved, the breeder may submit the Litter Registration Application through the KCP Online Portal.

The application shall be linked with the information already maintained in the KCP Registry including:

  • Approved Stud Certificate.
  • Approved Litter Intimation.
  • Sire Record.
  • Dam Record.
  • Breeder Record.
  • Registered Kennel Prefix.
  • Other relevant information maintained by KCP.

Members shall not normally be required to repeatedly submit documents or information that has already been verified and is available within the KCP Registry.

KCP may request additional information or supporting documentation where information is missing or further verification is required.

6. Litter Inspection

All litters shall be subject to inspection in accordance with KCP Rules.

The assigned Breed Warden or other person authorized by KCP shall inspect the litter and record the required information.

The inspection may include verification of:

  • Identity of the sire and dam.
  • Age and breeding eligibility of both parents.
  • Microchip information of the parents.
  • Number and sex of puppies.
  • General health and condition of the dam.
  • General health and condition of the puppies.
  • Vaccination and health information where applicable.
  • Compliance with KCP breeding requirements.
  • Any visible abnormalities or other observations required by KCP.

The inspection report shall become part of the official KCP electronic litter record.

7. Microchipping

All puppies shall be individually identified by an official microchip.

Microchipping shall be carried out by KCP at approximately 9 weeks of litter age.

Microchips shall be allocated and managed through the KCP system and implanted by a Breed Warden or other person authorized by KCP.

Each microchip number shall be recorded against the respective puppy and permanently linked with that puppy’s registration and pedigree record.

8. Puppy Registration and Pedigrees

Following completion of the required registration, inspection and microchipping procedures, KCP shall process the registration of the puppies and issue their Pedigree Certificates.

All puppies from a registered litter shall initially be registered in the name of the breeder.

All Pedigree Certificates shall initially be issued in the breeder’s name only.

Completed pedigrees shall be posted or couriered only to the breeder’s registered address maintained in the KCP system.

The breeder is responsible for ensuring that the registered address maintained with KCP is complete and current.

9. Transfer to New Owners

After registration, individual puppies may be transferred from the breeder to their new owners through the prescribed KCP Ownership Transfer procedure.

The breeder is responsible for ensuring that the correct puppy, registration number and microchip number are transferred to the correct new owner.

10. Standard KCP Breeding and Registration Process

The standard breeding and litter registration procedure shall be:

  • Mating
  • Stud Certificate and clear mating photograph submitted online within 14 days
  • Birth of Litter
  • Litter Intimation submitted online within 10 days of whelping
  • KCP Approval of Litter Intimation
  • Online Litter Registration Application
  • Litter Inspection
  • Microchipping by KCP at approximately 9 weeks of litter age
  • KCP Verification and Approval
  • Puppies Registered and Pedigrees Issued in Breeder’s Name
  • Pedigrees Posted to Breeder’s Registered Address
  • Transfer of Puppies to New Owners

Each stage shall form part of the permanent electronic KCP Registry.

11. Accuracy of Information

All information submitted to KCP must be factual and accurate.

If at any stage it is established that:

  • Incorrect or misleading information has deliberately been provided.
  • Parentage has been misrepresented.
  • Registration information has been falsified.
  • Required information has deliberately been withheld.
  • KCP breeding or registration requirements have been violated.

KCP may suspend or cancel the registration of the litter or individual dogs and may take further action in accordance with KCP Rules and Regulations.

12. Health and Welfare

Breeders are responsible for maintaining the health and welfare of their breeding dogs and puppies.

Dogs used for breeding must be maintained in suitable condition and provided with appropriate:

  • Nutrition.
  • Veterinary care.
  • Vaccination and parasite control.
  • Exercise.
  • Clean and suitable housing.
  • Socialisation.
  • Humane treatment and general welfare.

Puppies must be raised in a healthy and suitable environment and provided with appropriate care and socialisation during their early development.

13. Responsible Breeding

Registration of a dog does not by itself mean that the dog should be used for breeding.

Before planning a mating, breeders should carefully consider:

  • Health.
  • Temperament.
  • Conformation.
  • Breed type.
  • Pedigree and bloodlines.
  • Compatibility of the proposed sire and dam.
  • Known hereditary conditions within the breed.
  • Overall contribution of the proposed mating to the future of the breed.

The objective of every breeding should be to preserve or improve the quality, health and temperament of the breed.

14. Breed Specific Requirements

Where KCP or an affiliated breed club has approved additional requirements for a particular breed, those requirements shall also apply.

Depending upon the breed, these may include:

  • Health Testing.
  • DNA Testing.
  • Hip and Elbow Evaluation.
  • Breed Survey.
  • Working Qualifications.
  • Temperament Testing.
  • Other breed specific requirements approved by KCP.

Breeders are responsible for complying with the requirements applicable to their breed.

15. Fees

All breeding and registration related fees shall be charged according to the current KCP Fee Schedule.

Members should refer to the KCP website or Online Portal for the current applicable fees.

16. General Provision

All Stud Certificates, Litter Intimations and Litter Registration Applications shall be submitted through the official KCP Online Portal.

Members shall not normally be required to submit paper forms or repeatedly provide pedigrees, ownership records or other information already verified and maintained within the KCP Registry.

KCP reserves the right to request additional information or supporting documentation whenever required for verification.

These Breeding Rules shall be read together with the KCP Constitution, Registration Rules, Litter Registration Rules, Microchipping Rules and other applicable KCP regulations.

The Kennel Club of Pakistan reserves the right to amend these rules from time to time through decisions of the KCP Managing Committee.
